Ya ever head

A few more dynamics and it would be really great for a sort of intro, If you've ever listened to The Grid by Daft Punk you'll get what I'm talking about.

A little bit more tweaking on the instruments so they're not default presets and some mastering this would be usable in more peoples eyes.

iimpulse responds:

Yeah, thanks. It needed a lot of tweaking, it was one of my first ever tracks, and now that I look back at it, I am somewhat critical of it. It isnt great, but I guess I could fix it for future use. Thanks for the review! :)

Caught my ears

It's pretty basic, the chugging rolling feel to the song is well laid out.
Sound quality is ecstatic.

As far as a test goes, top notch, Really impressive.
There's always that bitter taste of something being too good to be too short :)

PirateCrab responds:

Haha thanks a lot man. This is definitely my best work so far and I will be turning this into a full song over the next few days :)

Mastering Process.

Here's how my mastering process works.
It's not finished and I'm still refining it, but it seems to work well.
My latest song is not a good example, I'm going to go back to it myself and work with it more. but that's unrelated to you.........
And so!
It works best for starting a new project.
There's some basics to how it works too. (I'm amusing you're using fruityloops >.<)
Here goes.

Set a couple channels to 9% volume, as many channels as you think you'll need for your song.
Place a limiter on the master channel and turn up the gain so you'll be able to hear the sounds you're playing.

When you place a sound into a channel you immediately go in with the paremetric EQ and cut out frequencies you don't want that sound in. Usually you cut it out the bass where the snare will be and the subs at 30hz to tighten it's sound for example.

When you have your entire song made and the whole song stays under -22db on it's own(without limiter turned on) you can export it into a wav file.
You should be able to hear all the sounds in it equally.

You take your wav file in a new document and from there you can make small adjustments like tempo or pitch if you like.
Since the wav file is extremely quiet you will now begin to mix it up and out.

First use a Parametric EQ to selectively sharpen certain frequencies that will benefit your song.
Then cut off the lowest and highest of your frequencies you wont need.
It's popular to cut off the bass at 40hz and the treble at 18khz, where you cut the bass is your own choice really.
This is done to keep comfort to your listeners on different speakers for playback.

From here some compressors do the trick, if you have a harmonic expander in your plugins, I recommend that as well.

uh, lets see, last detail would be to make sure that it doesn't go over -3db too much on your mastered product. This is for playback comfort of your listeners as well.

I'm really tired, I'll talk more in the morning *passes out*

SuperKirbyMaster responds:

Wow thanks for the info, I'll try this next time.

As amateur as it is, all I do is add some Paramteric EQ here and there on the individual channels, and then a bit of Soundgoodizer on the master.

I might PM you if I get stuck or something.
Again, thanks a bunch!

WOW :O

You've gotten so much better since I've last stomped around your audio submissions, really impressive work here as well.

It sounds a little naked as it is now. it's missing that mid-high range.
Harmonic expanding would help fix that but I'm not sure about completely.

hmm.
nice work!

SuperKirbyMaster responds:

haha, thanks!

Oh wow

Sickness.
Nice work you've put into this. I've never thought of a sonic dance track before, it's pretty wicked.

The mastering could use a touch otherwise green as gold!
Or...Emerald as gold xD.

iimpulse responds:

I have always loved the Sonic themes, they are possibly my favourite retro videogame themes. I will try and make a better version of this in the near future if you would like to hear a better version of it :D Thanks for the great review!

The Ending

It sounds like the sad ending of a very dark and grieving movie.

You descend deeper and deeper into this labyrinth of graves. As the shadows swallow you there's no way out. Corpses lay everywhere around you, some were never completely put in their tombs properly. You make your way to the center, the garden. This is the core of the maze.
You know you will never be able to become free even if you wanted it.

In the middle of garden you sit, a single beam of light from the ceiling nothing but shadows around you.
You look to the sky, the brimming light is so dim from where you sit. You begin to breath heavy, your eyes swell, you will never see day again after this night. Nor your family, nor your friends.

It's now well past noon, the sun is starting to set, you light is fading, the corpses are becoming at unease. You wait for your demise, but you want salvation. But there was none, you will join the race of the undead. You will loose yourself in the calm calamity of the darkness. And you will live in the garden without any doubt you've made the wrong choice.

This choice you made because it was your last hope, the surface is burning.
The world is ending.

Flalaski responds:

wow, well that was amazing. :D I agree! thank you!

Stare at death in the eye

And it sends its cold shards of despair at you..

very dark, gloomy, cold, sharp.
I can have no words to say my love for this song.

flashmakeit responds:

yeah it's a halloween song spooky and cold
Thanks much for the score and review

Long time no listen

I'm gunna listen to it again.
It was very mellow and grungy at the same time. has a deep funk feel.

grooveT3K responds:

Hey mate!

Thanks for the review!
This is really just a quick little track I made in a couple of hours while I was sweating my ring gear out and I could have done more with it and I may still do, the more I listen the more little subtle tweaks I might have to add just to make it that little bit better

But thanks for the comment, much appreciation!

Fire up the Thanking Gun

We have some people to shoot our thanks at! Aim for this Artist, he is one of them!

This song has been enjoyed, thanks mate, I feel better inside.

DJDureagon responds:

I think i just got shot. Feels good man.

Cool.

It's very relaxing, starts with a cool clean rhythm and melody. It's both funky and calm which isn't too common in most music today.
The Moog synth at 1:00 was a good choice, I wasn't expecting it and would have not thought about using that but it makes the piece even more enjoyable.

I feel like I'm in an old city, probably in the 1990's. 16bit computer graphics of a dos game with choppy animation. The view over this worlds city tops are all mine, as I sit in my the throne of my defeated foe.
It's like a good track for the Start and/or End of a dos style game.
It's so calm I love it!

DENT-de-lion responds:

Thank you for reviewing! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, this song is pretty calm - I had a lot of fun making it! I do love the Moog, I had to put one in... Haha! I like your visualization. 90's video-game graphics were the best! Thanks again!

I draw pinups, tomgirls, and the occasional smut. I make music for fun. No Requests.
